A few weeks ago, Texas Governor Rick Perry continued his endless Conservative crusade against women by making the legislative decision to cut federal funding to the Medicaid Women's Health Program that directly contributes to Planned Parenthood clinics across the state. Because both local and federal funding are major contributions to the livelihood of these medical facilities, Planned Parenthood has since sought after alternative funding to make up for the deep deficit.
Meanwhile, in Transparent Publicity Stunts 101, “advisor and strategist for big authors and big brands” Ryan Holiday writes a piece on Forbes.com asking why Planned Parenthood decided not to accept a supposed gift of $500,000 from his client, Tucker Max. Tucker Max, a known and vocal misogynist pig who has made a small fortune off of the degradation and humiliation of women, apparently approached Holiday and asked him how he could “alleviate his tax burden” and “promote his new book at the same time.”
Though he briefly glosses over the fact that Max's PR needs “rehabilitation,” what's utterly appalling about this article and its author is that Holiday actually thinks he can position Tucker Max—a comedian who unapologetically writes that “all women are whores,” “sluts,” and “cunty lunatics”—as the unsung hero of women's welfare and Planned Parenthood as the villain. By holding up the match of Governor Perry's recent legislature as fuel for the fire, Holiday disgustingly goes on to deludedly attribute his client as both the savior and martyr of Planned Parenthood. He should be ashamed of himself.
Despite the fact that this entire story reeks of a PR stunt and a marketing ploy to try and get your attention on Max's new book, even if his contribution were real, Planned Parenthood will not accept monetary donations from scumbags who oppose everything and everyone they've worked tirelessly for to protect. If they were to accept Max's gift, it would completely kill the integrity and credibility of the organization and seriously jeopardize future funding and financial support for the organization's medical services and centers. So while Tucker Max has the option and the luxury of simply “alleviating his tax burden,” the women of this country live in fear every day that the health centers they rely most on could be voted away from them—or worse, bombed as an act of domestic terrorism recently seen just days ago in Wisconsin.
I am so sick and tired of men playing these political and PR games with women's well-beings. We are not disposable objects. We are not whores, or sluts, or cunts. We demand and deserve respect for putting up with the fact that, every day, our sheer existence is threatened by cruel politicians and careless entertainers who turn our gender into an interest group and our welfare into a bad joke. Tucker Max, Ryan Holiday, and Rick Perry can fuck right off. I stand and will always stand with Planned Parenthood.
